Women In Politics Platform Predicts Further Reduction Of Women In Leadership After 2021 General Elections

The National Women in Politics Platform says the trend by political parties of prioritizing the adoption of male candidates over their female counterparts may result in a further reduction of women in leadership after the 2021 general elections.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Platform Chairperson Saboi Imboela says it is disheartening to note that in recent local government and parliamentary by elections held in

various parts of the country, very few or no women have been adopted by participating political parties.

Ms. Imboela has since challenged political parties to honor their various commitments towards the attainment of gender parity both within the party and in the elective positions.

She has highlighted that among other benefits of women participation in politics include promotion of democracy and greater responsiveness to women and citizen needs.
