Lifuka Guides On Appointment Of Board Of Directors In Parastatals

By Prudence Siabana

Governance Advocate Rueben Lifuka is appealing to the government to appoint a board of directors that have the necessary background and expertise to discharge their functions in a professional manner in various parastatal organizations.

Commenting on the recent dissolving of boards of Zesco Limited, Zambia Railways, Indeni Petroleum Refinery Company, and Zamtel by the President, Mr Lifuka says the government should not rush into appointing the new boards but should conduct due diligence as boards

play a crucial role in providing corporate governance in the running of an institution.

He tells Phoenix News government should avoid giving such jobs to political cadres who have no expertise to serve but are only interested in benefitting themselves as was the case in the previous regime.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lifuka has advised the government to consider working closely with professional bodies that will help in identifying the right people to serve on the affected boards.
