Learners In Mufulira To Shun Classes Due To Alleged Corporal Punishment

By Tinkerbel Mwila

Learners at Eastlea Primary School in Mufulira district on the Copperbelt are planning to shun classes due to alleged corporal punishment being given to pupils by some teachers at the school.

And some parents whose children are victims of corporal punishment at the school have appealed to relevant authorities to address the matter before it gets out of hand.

They

are saddened that the teachers have taken a route of beating children despite corporal punishment being abolished in schools in 2003 in line with the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child.

But when contacted, Mufulira District Education Board Secretaries-DEBS-Elizabeth Ng’onga condemned the actions taken by some teachers and has assured parents that the matter will be addressed.
