GOVT ADVISED TO BE CAUTIONS IN HANDLING KCM ISSUE

By Tinkerbel Mwila

Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has advised government to be cautious in the quest to resolve longstanding challenges at Konkola Copper Mines-KCM.

Mr. Mumba is of the view that if government is to bring back Vedanta Resources into the country’s mining business to run KCM, it must strike a balance between the existing loss of social capital and that of economic value that is likely to come forth if a

well struck deal was to be reached.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mumba has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment and resort to resolve KCM challenges outside the courts saying the move is the best route as opposed to the liquidation process which has not helped.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Mumba observes that the KCM matter is a litmus test for the new dawn administration hence the need to effectively handle it.
