ZAMBEZI PORTLAND CEMENT UNIONIZED WORKERS PROTEST

Over 170 unionized employees at Zambezi Portland Cement in Ndola this morning staged a peaceful protest demanding improved conditions of service.

The employees have since down tools in protest of delays in concluding the 2022 salary negotiations.
In an interview with Phoenix News, the workers are demanding among other things, salary increments and the removal of the current United Mine Workers Union Of Zambia Chairman Jonathan Banda whom they have accused of engaging in corrupt practices and

not siding with them.

Meanwhile, United Mine Workers Union of Zambia Chairman Jonathan Banda says the allegations against him of engaging in corrupt practices are false and has described the work stoppage by the workers at Zambezi Portland as illegal.

Mr. Banda has warned all the members that have participated in the work stoppage of committing an offence and will have themselves to blame for any repercusions.
Efforts to get a comment from Zambezi Portland management failed by broadcast time.
