GOVT OPTIMISTIC OF CLINCHING IMF DEAL AFTER FORTHCOMING DEBT RESTRUCTURING MEETING WITH CREDITORS

By Balewa Zyuulu

The Paris Club Creditors have invited the Zambian government to participate in the debt restructuring meeting to be held on Thursday this week.

Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokwatwane disclosed that the forthcoming meeting is a step forward towards resolving the current unsustainable debt crisis for Zambia.

Dr. Musokwatwane is optimistic that

after the discussions with creditors, Zambia will be able to secure the debt relief from the International Monetary Fund-IMF.

He says the series of meetings between the creditors and Zambia means that the country will still conclude the $1.4 billion bailout from the IMF within the shortest period of time although it was initially envisaged to be finalized by June,2022.
