CITIZENS URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ONGOING 2023 BUDGET CONSULTATIONS

By Prudence Siabana

The Zambia Council for Social Development-ZCSD- is urging members of the public to take keen interest and participate in the ongoing 2023 national budgeting consultations.

Last month, government announced that it had started preparations for the 2023 national budget and the 2023 to 2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and has been receiving proposals from the public and other stakeholders effective May 23rd 2022 up to June 30th 2022.

ZCSD Executive Director Leah Mitaba says the budgeting process is an important route through which

members of the public can influence mobilization allocation and prudent utilization of public resources hence the need for full public participation.

Ms. Mitaba says it is vital for the public to actively involve themselves in this process as it is their right to participate in public finance matters including budget making, as enshrined in the enacted national planning and budget planning act number 1 of 2020 which provides for strengthened accountability oversight and participation mechanisms in the national planning and budgeting process among others.
